![]() ![]() There are two more books in the series as well, Endymion and The Rise of Endymion. In fact, now I'm curious about Keats.Īlthough this is science fiction, it also deals with religious themes, but in a manner appropriate to science fiction. His literary allusions are frequent but I didn't mind. In fact Hyperion and The Fall of Hyperion are both named after unfinished poems written by Keats. I wasn't one of those people - I wanted some answers!Īuthor Dan Simmons was an English major and it shows. That said, some people find the second book less satisfying precisely because it is more straightforward. In my opinion the two books really must be read together. It also does a marvelous job of making sense out of Hyperion, and there's a satisfying resolution. The Fall of Hyperion is much more traditional science fiction with one narrator and a plot that moves the action forward. But the series came highly recommended so I pressed on. I have no complaints about the writing or narration but I almost gave up due to the lack of resolution. There are more mysteries than answers, and if you are expecting a resolution you will be disappointed. However these tales are uniformly weird and full of pain, and the pilgrimage of the travelers seems downright suicidal. Hyperion is a series of tales by travelers in the far future, in the manner of Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. The Fall of Hyperion (Hyperion Cantos #2) (1990), by Dan Simmons, narrated by Victor Bevine. Touch oriented modulate-able (4 source) FX bus audio Vector-mixer node.Hyperion (Hyperion Cantos #1) (1989), by Dan Simmons, narrated by: Marc Vietor, Allyson Johnson, Kevin Pariseau, Jay Snyder, and Victor Bevine.Granulator (full range of emission rate/size/window/playback speed/mix controls).Stereo echo with cross feedback, L/R delay offset and damping controls.Tube Resonator, Ring mod, Bit-Crusher, Pitch shifter.Stereo filter - with the full range of filter types.Full and dual-band compressors with side-chain, gain and crossover control.3 Reverb types: Medium, Large (with modulation and pre-delay), and Huge - all with size, damping, tone, and width controls.Suite of true-stereo buss effects including: Touch oriented modulate-able (4 source) audio levels and Vector-mixer nodes.Distortion, Tube resonator, Ring modulator, Bit-Crusher, per-voice Granulator, Vowel filter.Multiple filter types including low/high/band/notch with cutoff & resonance, slope/depth, stereo offset and saturation control.Vector synthesis - modulate-able Vector mixers are available for both voice processing and FX-Bus audio processing (4 sources) Multi-sample (sound font) oscillator enabling import of sfz/sf2 files. Sample playback with looping - can loop single cycle waveforms to create custom oscillator tones. Physical modeling flute oscillator with smooth note/pipe configuration transitions. Plucked string model with damping, distortion and stereo unison detunes. ![]() Wave-sequenced 4 operator FM - with the same features as classic oscillator wave-sequencing but enabling sequences of 4 operator FM configurations (also with save and load capability). Wave-sequencing oscillators with up to 32 steps of oscillator configuration (including pitch offset, waveform, wave-shape depth, unison detunes, balance and level) with smooth cross fading via wave-sequence position modulation - save your own, and load ready made sequences. Integrated hard sync mode and waveform bit-crush controls.Įasy to use 4 operator FM (phase modulation with feedback) with 12 algorithms & multi-operator output mix, pre-selected list of useful modulation-operator ratios and master modulation depth control. Classic mono and stereo 'digital' and 'virtual analog' oscillators with mono or stereo unison detuning and wave-shaping which enables drastic sonic character changes from the basic wave-forms.
